The
Dallas Downtown Partnership, in conjunction with the City of Dallas,
the City Center TIF, the Downtown Improvement District and the
Central Dallas Association, as part of their overall downtown
redevelopment efforts, are working to restore the downtown Dallas
retail core to its former prominence. The intent is to create
a living and breathing urban landscape open 24/7 to serve both
residents and the enormous daytime population that is already
present. Retail is a major building block in leading the revitalization
of downtown Dallas. Main Street, which once served as the principle
retail district in Dallas, is once again becoming home to a growing
base of upscale restaurants and bars as well as retailers.
Working with various developers and leading groups of property
owners, the Downtown Partnership is working to revitalize the
downtown retail core and eventually re-tenant the entire area.
The City of Dallas and the Dallas Downtown Partnership have achieved
a consensus with the various property owners that this area had
to be revitalized and both the public and private sectors need
to work in concert in order for any effort to be successful. And
there is tremendous opportunity, approximately 300,000 –
450,000 sq. ft. of retail space located in both new and existing
buildings are available – with many of the buildings dating
back to the early 1900’s – 1920’s which presents
a unique opportunity for creative approaches.
