The Texas Downtown Association has designated Stone Street Gardens in Downtown Dallas as the Best Rehabilitation Project in the state for the year 2002. The honor recognizes the Stone Street Garden's high quality and its role in downtown revitalization. The Awards program celebrates people, projects and places that make Texas downtowns special.
Stone Street Gardens is located in the center of the Main Street District, partially
financed by the City Center TIF and a part of the overall redevelopment of downtown
Dallas as supervised by the Downtown Partnership, Inc. The project was designed
by the Dallas-based landscape architectural firm, Armstrong Berger; John Armstrong
was the designing architect.
"Seventy seven entries from thirty four downtowns competed in eleven categories
shows how aggressive cities throughout the state of Texas are working to revitalize
their downtowns. Projects were of an impressive high quality and Stone Street
Gardens was no different", said Karen Wunsch, co-chair of this year's awards
program.
Stone Street Gardens provides aesthetic spaces for outdoor dining and entertaining
from the restaurants bordering it, which occupy space in the recently refurbished
Woolworth building owned by Thomas Taylor. The park consists of sculpture, fountains,
benches, interesting hardscape and seasonal softscape as a place for respite
in our center city. Stone Street Gardens are near Neiman Marcus between Main
and Elms Streets.
